MUZITOUCH
Intuitive access to musical content.
– Interaction research project – semi-directed suggestion –
ENSAD Paris, 2009.
This wireless speaker propose a musical content suggestion triggered by user’s hand pressures.
The hand pressure guides a suggestion program based on music intensity.

Process Story
Context : Iphone 1 / Growing amount of music data => Do we still need precise verbal informations to navigate into a gigantic music data collection ?

If visual information needs to be avoided, which human sense could help us better navigate into unkown music data collection ?

Searching for information on social gesture, mimesis and body language => power of body memory // If Hands can create music => find music.

How could we interact more naturally with our computers while avoiding verbal communication ?

Hypothesis 3 : a human is used to simulate sensor and program capable to understand human touch gesture language.

Facts : 70 % of « interface » role playing attendants were able to select the corresponding music track.
hypothesis : Pressure was the 1st common layer of touch gesture used to communicate music intensity.

Meeting François Pachet (CSL) & Frédéric Bevilacqua (IRCAM)

Simulating a computer program that could select a music according to a pressure value.
Studying a 3D surface over the pressure sensor in order to enhance user’s touch pressure control.

Refining the computer program and texture through many user tests until giving shape to a wireless speaker.

Work featured in some publications and conferences. Here a publication about 5 european inventors selected for their innovative approach.
